Birds included in the card set are:
Bullfinch
With their front-heavy appearance, it’s easy to see how bullfinches got their name. In contrast, they are very shy birds with a quiet nature and a soft, piping call. Pairing birds form strong lasting bonds and often raise two, sometimes even three broods a year.
Linnet
Both the common and latin names of the linnet come from its favourite food: seeds. It is reliant on various small seeds throughout the year and seeks thick thorny hedgerows in which to nest. In times past, The linnet’s pretty plumage and pleasing song, made it a desirable cage bird.
Yellowhammer
Most commonly found in short thick hedgerows, yellowhammers are reliant on grass margins around arable fields for food and nesting sites. Adult males have a bright yellow head and belly and can be seen perching on tops of bushes & shrubs, singing their melodic song, ‘Little bit of bread and no cheese’.
Whitethroat
As a widespread summer visitor to the UK, the whitethroat darts swiftly in and out of hedgerows, grassland, and scrub. Part of the warbler family, it has pretty neutral tones of brown, grey & buff and with its prominent white throat, can be first heard singing its chattery song between April and July.
