Beaver greetings card
This A6 Beaver greetings card is blank inside so you can add your own personal message.
The back of this A6 greetings card includes the following:
The beaver is a skilled ecosystem engineer with an incredible ability to create new wetlands, restore native woodland and improve habitats for a wide range of species. Its distinct flat, paddle-shaped tail serves as both support on land and for steering in water, while its bright orange teeth (due to iron in the enamel) are super hard, enabling them to fell trees for food & construction materials.
Other semi-aquatic mammals greetings cards include: Otter greetings card, Grey seal greetings card and Water vole greetings card
This greetings card is also available as part of a set
Beavers – Natures ecosystem engineers
All around the UK, Beavers are being reintroduced due to their ability to change waterways and improve habitats for a wide range of species–humans included. Spains Hall in Finchingfield North West Essex is one such example where Beavers have been introduced as part of a Natural Flood Management programme. Prior to their reintroduction, the village of Finchingfield, experienced frequent flooding with severe floods occurring in 2012 and 2014. Spains Hall released the first pair of beavers in East Anglia for over 500 years. With free reign across a 10-acre woodland stream, the beaver family, now numbering 11, have created nine dams which are estimated to store 3 million litres of water in ponds covering almost a quarter of the woodland. The beavers’ presence and dam-building activity have helped to manage flood risk and create a more resilient ecosystem.
Spains Hall estate is well worth a visit. Tour the biodiversity project, woodland and wetland creation areas and learn about their holistic approach to landscape management.
Did you know?
• Beavers have bright orange teeth due to the iron present in their enamel! They are extremely hard, enabling them to fell trees for food and for building lodges
• Lodges are complex insulated living spaces with multiple underwater entrances for protection
• Beavers can hold their breath for up to 15 minutes underwater. They also have a transparent third eyelid which protects their eyes when swimming underwater
• Favourite foods of the beaver include willow, aspen, and alder
